Let's take a moment to appreciate the king of spices!
Black Pepper is the most important and widely consumed spice in the world, accounting for 20% of the world trade in spices. Salt and pepper are an iconic duo; however, while both can certainly enhance flavour, black pepper offers many other proven benefits such as: improving appetite & nutrient absorption, controlling dyspepsia, and providing a rich source of vitamins A, E, and K, as well as several minerals.
Our black pepper is organically grown and offered directly from farms in Wayanad, India - a UNESCO designated world heritage region on the Malabar coast of India's Kerala province. The region's rich soil and mountains offer the perfect terroir (or growing conditions) for many nutrient-rich herb and spices to flourish. The peppercorns harvested here are widely considered the finest in the world.
What Does It Taste Like?
Our Organic Wayanadan black pepper is bold, aromatic, and rich in essential oils that produce a flavour with hints of sweetness, citrus and pine. Wayanad has two monsoon rainy seasons that lash the mountains here and blasts it with wind. Many believe Wayanadan Black Pepper gets its unique flavour profile from the rainwater that rushes down from the lush biodiverse mountains down onto the peppercorn farming areas.
How Is It Used?
Use black pepper as an ingredient in recipes to add flavour and spice to poultry, vegetables, salad dressings, soups, stir-fries, pasta, and more.
Some dishes are pepper-forward that take full advantage of the incredible flavor profile of black pepper, such as steak rubs that can be created using black pepper as the primary ingredient.

DESCRIPTION
Black pepper is obtained from the small dried berries (peppercorns) of the vine Piper Nigrum. Peppercorn berries are picked while still green, allowed to ferment, and are sun-dried until they shrivel and turn a brownish-black color.
Pepper is valued for its pungency contributed by the alkaloid piperine and flavor contributed by the volatile oil.
HEALTH & NUTRITION
Black pepper's distinct sharp flavor is attributed to the presence of the phytochemical, piperine. Various clinical studies have shown piperine's many potential health benefits, including:
- Providing a rich source of vitamins and minerals. such as vitamins A, E, and K, as well as the minerals calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, and zinc.
- Aiding digestion. Pepper increases the absorption of several vitamins and minerals and stimulates saliva secretion to ultimately assist with the breakdown of food within the digestive system.
- Possibly helping prevent or delay the onset of many chronic diseases. Piperine is a powerful antioxidant and exhibits anti-inflammatory properties which together make it a promising compound in the fight against cancer, asthma, and arthritis.
- Potentially enhance brain functionality and is used to treat memory-related diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.
