If you're a fan of allspice and nutmeg, cloves are very similar to these spices. Cloves have a rich culinary and medicinal history dating back thousands of years. With a rich aroma and spicy taste, cloves are used to flavour many foods, particularly meats and bakery products.

They are derived from the flower bud of Syzygium aromaticum, an evergreen tree, right from the source in Madagascar and delivered to you "farm to fork".

Available As: Whole or Ground Powder

What Does It Taste Like?

Cloves are quite powerful in both taste and scent. This intensely aromatic spice can add a sweet warmth to any dish they are added to. In essence, cloves is sharper than cinnamon, less floral than cardamom and closely related to nutmeg in flavor.

How Is It Used?

One of the most common uses of this aromatic spice is flavoring hot drinks, like mulled wine, as well as flavoring sweet dishes like stewed fruits.

Cloves are also a main ingredient in Worcestershire sauce, and are commonly used to add sweetness and spice to other sauces, jams, and pickling mixtures. Whole cloves are used for flavoring and usually removed from recipes before serving.

Cloves also have some non-culinary uses; such as in cigarettes or as an ant repellent.
